Frequently Asked Questions
Tempered glass is about four times stronger than "ordinary," or annealed, glass. Unlike annealed glass, which can shatter into jagged shards when broken, broken tempered glass will break into small, harmless pieces.
Our pyramid shaped gusset pad is designed to cover base plates, gussets, ground sleeves and anchor bolts on all our basketball goal systems. It consists of a 1.5 inch foam pad covered with a UV resistant vinyl cover. This is an all weather cover although it is recommended to remove all padding in the "off season".
Velcro strips secure the basketball padding to the pole.
All our Canam systems come with the gusset pad as well as the pole pad. One Year Manufacturers Limited Warranty.
Gauge (or gage) sizes are numbers that indicate the thickness of a piece of metal, with a higher number referring to a thinner sheet. The equivalent thicknesses differ for each gauge size standard, which were developed based on the weight of the sheet for a given material. We use the thickest material for our Canam Systems.
Both Galvanized steel and zinc coated are designed for rust and corrosion resistance. Both steels are passed through a hot dip coating process for rust prevention. Galvanized steel goes through an additional annealing process which vastly improves formability and paint adhesion. Galvanized steel is always recommended. Our Canam Systems are all galvanized.
Overhang is the distance between the front of the post and the front of the backboard. Most customers prefer to shoot from further back than to have a true 4 feet of play behind the backboard. Most of our Canam systems have a 4 foot overhang, as do our adjustable PLATINUM, GOLD and SILVER series. However, the Canam DIAMOND series has a 5 foot overhang.
